Yoon Eun-Hye

Yoon, Eun-Hye (Korean: 윤은혜, Hanja: 尹恩惠, born October 3, 1984) is a South Korean actress, singer, and model. She debuted as a member of the popular girl group Baby V.O.X, staying with the group from 1999 - 2005. She has since moved on to acting, receiving popularity and fame from her role as a crown princess on the drama Princess Hours, also known as "Goong", as well as her role as the main protagonist in the highly successful drama, The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince.

Baby V.O.X. days

When the girl group Baby V.O.X dropped a member due to a scandal, Yoon Eun-Hye was chosen to replace her. Yoon Eun-Hye was by far the youngest member in the group, debuting at the age of 15. She recorded four albums with the band before leaving the group in July 2005 in order to pursue an acting career. While with the group, Eun-Hye quickly became known as the "cute" one not only for her young age, but because of her bright personality. However, she was also criticized for her weight, as she looked overweight compared to her very slim band mates. Although she debuted a new, skinnier body in early 2005, she appeared to be experiencing a "yoyo" effect, as noted by various Korean netizens.

Eun-Hye suffered in the hands of detractors Baby V.O.X. when she joined the group to produce their third album. In a water gun incident, Baby V.O.X. was scheduled to appear on Gyun-Ahn Broadcasts Music Engine and was waiting inside their van when Eun-Hye was shot by a water gun by an unidentified man. The man pretended to be a passionate fan of the group and attempted to offer a Pikachu doll as a present. Suddenly, he took out a water gun and shot Yoon Eun-Hye right in the eye before fleeing. After being shot, Eun-Hye expressed severe pain and could not open her eyes for a long period of time. Baby V.O.X. had to cancel their performance and Eun-Hye was taken straight to the hospital. There, Eun-Hye was informed that her cornea was damaged. The members of the group claimed they smelled soy sauce and vinegar from the water that came out of the water pistol. No further information regarding this incident was released.

Music career

Besides singing in the band, Baby V.O.X, Yoon Eun-Hye lent her voice to Mighty Mouth, for their song 'Sarang Hae,' better known as 'I Love You.' She however, does not appear in the music video. Yoon Eun-Hye performed with Mighty Mouth in 2008 at her fan meeting. In 2008, Yoon Eun-Hye sang 'Salad Song' with Korean actor Lee Dong Gun to promote Samsung CF.

Acting career

Yoon Eun-Hye has played a small role on the sitcom "Nonstop Four", where she had a small role with MC Mong, before moving on to became a regular guest for the variety show X-Man on SBS. While on "X-Man", she became involved in a romantic scandal with popular K-pop singer Kim Jong Kook which received coverage from a local newspaper. Although "X-Man" raised her public profile, she left the show a year later in order to pursue acting. Eun Hye also played Kim Jong Kook's love interest in his music video "Saying You Love Me" which was released in July 2006.

Eun Hye had her first major acting role in popular Korean drama, Princess Hours (also known as Goong). Initially, fans of Goong had questioned her acting ability, which lead to controversy. The success of the drama also appeared unclear as it competed with My Girl which also boasted casting of popular celebrities such as Lee Jun Ki and Lee Dong Wook. The drama began with average ratings, but as it continued, viewership increased to 28.3% nationally, leading to an extension of the first season (from 20 to 24 episodes) and a Princess Hours special on MBC. Although Yoon and the other main actors initially agreed to work on a second season of Princess Hours, only one of them officially agreed to do so. Another director of a different company eventually filmed a spin-off series with brand new characters, known as Goong S which was not to be confused with the actual Goong sequel planned by the original director and company.

Due to the success of her first drama, Yoon has been able to continue acting in other dramas such as The Vineyard Man. Like most Korean dramas at that time[citation needed], The Vineyard Man initially suffered from low ratings due to strong competition from the MBC 45th anniversary drama Jumong; however, the drama ratings gradually increased and reached a successful 15.6% on its finale.

Yoon's second lead role was for MBC's Monday/Tuesday drama The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince that started airing in July 2007, where she plays the employee Go Eun-chan at a coffee shop, who was once a master of Taekwondo. With her short haircut and tomboyish ways, she is presumed to be a boy by the owner of the shop, thus leading to romantic complications. The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince garnered higher ratings than her first series Princess Hours. Coffee Prince reached the viewership ratings as high as 32.1% in Seoul, making it number one for it's timeslot in MBC and 29.9% nationwide. During the time of her popularity peaking, Yoon was also diagnosed with Pernicious anemia.

Complications also ventured out around the same time with Yoon's own management company. Although the producer initially planned to produce a Princess Hours 2, a fued evolved and Yoon eventually filed the second certification of contents (COC) to cancel her contractual agreement with her management company, Eight Peaks. When asked to reveal the information behind the second COC, Yoon's counsel stated, "if Eight Peaks refused to cancel the contract then they would not hesitate to file a lawsuit, suing them for their refusal." The contents of the first COC stated that in January 2007 Yoon was confirmed to be starring in the MBC drama Que Sera Sera and had even participated and completed the script reading and rehearsal for the upcoming shoot. However, Eight Peaks had cancelled Yoon's involvement in Que Sera, Sera in order for Yoon to star in Princess Hours 2, which is Eight Peaks' self produced drama.

Consequently, after the cancellation of Yoon's involvement in Que Sera, Sera, Yoon took a two day vacation to Gangwon-do in March. Eight Peaks claimed that they had no knowledge of this so-called incident and spread a rumor of Yoon's irresponsibility online which damaged her reputation. Yoon's manager, Park Geun-Soo has stated "the second COC includes evidence to support the disagreeable actions made by Eight Peaks." Those actions included the improper handling and distribution/division of earnings and proceeds as well as the unilateral (one-sided) manner of making and carrying out decisions which caused immense problems.

After it had been reported that Yoon was paid 20 million won per episode for starring in Coffee Prince, she was enable to join South Korea's A-list of stars who also are members of the 20 million won club, which includes of Bae Yong-joon, Kwon Sang Woo, Ko Hyun Jung, and Song Il kook. Due to the success of Coffee Prince, Yoon Eun Hye got a huge fan following not only in Korea, but also in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and China. She has recently visited Japan to meet her fans and inaugrate her fan club. Her growing popularity can also be seen in the Korean entertainment as many business conglomerates are vying to get Eun Hye to be the product ambassador, where she was later dub as the "CF Queen" in Korea.

After having settled the disputes with Eight Peaks through careful negotiation, Yoon later sign with her new management agency, Kraze Entertainment. As a result, she was able to focus on her acting career, which will be Kraze Entertainment's focal point of attention. Her successful performance in 'Coffee Prince', has put her in the list of being one of the best actresses in Korean entertainment.

Biography

Early life

Rain spent most of his childhood living with his parents and younger sister near Hongik University. Despite being an introverted and shy child, he discovered he had a passion for dance when he performed in a talent show for Sungmoon Junior High School. Rain initially had a difficult time balancing dance and academics and received low grades during the beginning of junior high because of his frequent dance practices. He decided to follow his passion and attended Anyang High School of Arts, where he received his first formal instruction in acting and was able to continue dancing as well. Rain again found he could not focus on both dance and his studies in acting; he was truant on several occasions.

Rain lost his mother as she struggled with diabetes and passed away in 2000. Within that same year, Rain was recruited as a trainee for JYP Entertainment, led by successful recording artist and producer Park Jin-Young in 2000. In a CNN interview, however, he recalled being repeatedly rejected because of his looks: "In fact, I was told after one audition that my singing and dancing was great but I didn't make it because I didn't have double eyelids."[1] During the early years of training, Rain was a backup dancer.[2]

International recognition

In 2002, he debuted with the album Bad Guy where he was introduced to the media through his stage name, Rain. The album's title single Bad Guy was a hit. After his first album, he took time off from his career as a singer to star in the drama series, Sang Doo! Let's Go To School. Following the success of his debut as singer and actor, Rain released his second album, How to Avoid The Sun, and had another hit with the title song "Ways to Avoid the Sun."

In 2004, he starred in another successful drama called "Full House", which was one of the highest-rated Korean dramas of all time with ratings of over 30% for every episode.[2] It was broadcast in many other countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States Through Full House, Rain was recognized across Asia. His performance in the drama also won him the Best Actor Award at the KBS Acting Awards.

His third album, It's Raining, sold over 1 million copies in Asia. According to a report by Rain's previous agency JYP Entertainment to the Korea Culture & Content Agency, It's Raining topped the charts in all of the following countries as of December 29, 2005: Japan (100,000 copies), China (500,000 copies), Taiwan (70,000 copies), Thailand (150,000 copies), Indonesia (50,000 copies), and South Korea (154,000 copies), for a combined total of 1,074,000 units sold, making it Rain's most successful album to date both domestically and internationally.[3] His first concert, Rainy Day, held in Korea and Japan, was sold out on the first day when the tickets became available.

In 2004, Rain earned greater recognition by winning the MTV Asia Grand Slam, securing top honors in all the Asian countries which broadcast MTV Asia. Rain won the Favorite Korean Artist at the 2005 MTV Asia Aid held in Bangkok, the Most Popular Asian Artist Award from Channel [V] Thailand, the Best Buzz Asia Award during the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2005, and the Best Korean Singer award in the MTV-CCTV Mandarin Music Honors in Beijing. Rain was also the first Asian performing artist ever[citation needed] to be invited to the 2005 American MTV Video Music Awards in Miami, as well as the 2005 MTV Latin Video Music Awards in Mexico. These accomplishments earned Rain a lot of media attention, including interviews with Time Asian Edition and CNN Talk Asia. Rain also won the Best Korean Singer Award 2005 at the Mandarin Music Honors in Taiwan.

Rain then went on his RAINY DAY 2005 Tour, starting in Seoul and followed by Tokyo and Hong Kong. Due to his fame and his extravagant performances, tickets sold out quickly.[4] His first solo concert in Japan last summer, entitled Rainy Day Japan held at the Tokyo International Forum, was so popular that all the tickets were sold out 30 seconds after going on sale.[2] The tickets for another of his concerts in Taiwan were sold out the moment they became available. His performances in Hong Kong also sold out in a couple of hours.

In April 2006, he was mentioned in the Time magazine website article that named the "100 Most Influential People Who Shape Our World."[5][6] In 2007, Rain topped Time Magazine's online user poll although he was not in the magazine's actual list. [7] He also made it into People's 2007 list of the "Most Beautiful People" in the world. Rain also made an appearance in the Korean variety show Family Outing with Big Bang (band) member Dae Sung.

World tour and beyond

Rain's fourth album, Rain's World, was released in Korea on October 14, 2006.

His Rain's Coming Tour began on December 15, 2006 at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul and was scheduled to continue through 2007 to the following countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, United States, and Canada.[8] His tour incorporated the talents of producers and stage designers (such as Jamie King and Roy Bennett) who have been involved with the concert tours of famous artists such as U2, Michael Jackson, Ricky Martin, Madonna, Britney Spears, and The Rolling Stones. Ticket sales were expected to be over US$100 million.[9]

His latest concert was at the Tokyo Dome on May 25, 2007which attracted nearly 40,000 people.[10] Rain was the first Korean artist to perform at the Tokyo Dome, the largest auditorium in Japan.

Fame in the United States

Rain's success in the United States is limited. His two day concert, Rainy Day New York was marketed and promoted by the Asian concert production company Rainstone Live. Tickets were sold out within a matter of days.[11] Time magazine noted that Rain may collaborate in the future with Diddy. This came after reviewing Rain's performances in Madison Square Garden in February 2006. In 2007, several of Rain's U.S. concerts were cancelled due to low tickets sales and possible legal issues.

Special guests who made stage appearances at the concert included American pop singer JoJo, R&B singer Omarion, and hip-hop mogul Diddy.

There is also news that Rain will be recording a duet with Omarion, who used to be the vocalist of the popular hip-hop group, B2K, and had starred in the movie, You Got Served. When Rain's first movie, I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK, finished filming in early July 2006, he departed for the U.S. to discuss the possibility of singing the duet with Omarion, and to meet with the organizers of his Asian Tour. Rain apparently met Omarion through his producer, who had written a song for Omarion's recent album. Also, after Rain's concert in February in New York - where Omarion danced to Rain's song "Bad Guy" - Omarion and Rain became friends, says JYP Entertainment. They also noted that the two may star in a movie together one day.[12]

Omarion and Rain recorded a duet song, "Man Up," and that was released on the European version of Omarion's album 21 as a bonus track. The song has yet to be released in the U.S. due to contractual issues between several record labels.

In 2007, Rain made it to People's Most Beautiful People list for the first time, in its "First-Time Beauties 2007" section.[13] In a press release, Rain stated that he was honored to be on the list, and also noted that it will be a great boost to his efforts to raise his public awareness in the United States.[14] Also in 2007, ]. April 19, 2007. Retrieved May 9, 2007.; Colbert jokingly retaliated by producing a parody of Rain's music video for "Ways to Avoid the Sun" called "He's Singin' In Korean". Stephen Colbert has since challenged Rain to a dance-off "or a cuddle-off, or a spoon-off". On May 5, 2008, Rain appeared in a "surprise" guest segment at the end of The Colbert Report, and proceeded to engage Stephen in a dance-off. In the end, Rain won by causing the Dance Dance Revolution machine on which they were competing to overload and explode.[15]

Rain performed in two concert dates in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 23-24, 2006; the tickets to these concerts sold out within the first week of sales. The concerts were held at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. At the Las Vegas concert, Rain’s producer, JYP attended the concert with the King of Crunk, Lil’ Jon.[16]

Legal troubles and cancelled concerts

In February 2007, Rain and his former management agency JYP Entertainment as well as concert organizer, Star M Corporation, were sued over copyright infringement of the stage name "Rain," by the U.S. recording firm Rain Corporation. The company, which works with an American band also called "Rain," demanded that Rain drop the English name in the United States. In June 2007, the lawsuit ended because the Nevada court provided no evidence indicating that Rain Corporation would suffer any actual harm. Since the filing of the lawsuit, Rain's U.S. concert promotional posters had been changed to "Ji-hoon's World Tour 2007"; however, Rain may continue using "Rain's Coming World Tour."

On his latest World 2007 tour, his scheduled concerts in Shanghai, Toronto, San Francisco, and Hawaii were cancelled, followed by the last concert in Los Angeles. The last event at the Staples Center was canceled only two hours prior to opening: Rain's producer blamed the situation on financial problems with the local producer while the local promoter blamed Star M calling them "incompetent to handle the situation." [17]

On March 19, 2009, a federal jury in Honolulu found that Rain, his former management agency JYP Entertainment, and two other promotion companies were guilty of breaching a contract and defrauding Honolulu promoter Click Entertainment for $2 million (originally just over $1 million) after the Hawaii concert was cancelled and the promoters were not refunded the $500,000 licensing fee.[18] Rain and JYP were ordered to pay $2.4 million each in punitive damages, $1 million for damages related to the fraud, and $2.3 million for breach of contract.[19]

J. Tune Entertainment (Formerly known as the Rainy Entertainment)

In November 2007, Rain told the Korean media that he has left JYP Entertainment and has started his own entertainment company called J. Tune Entertainment (formerly known as Rainy Entertainment). He will be positioned as the CEO of the company, but told the media that he still keeps in touch with his mentor and long-time trainer Park Jin Young.

Hikaru Utada

Karir

First Love

Sampul single Automatic

Pada tanggal 9 Desember 1998, Utada Hikaru memulai debutnya dengan merilis sebuah single bertajuk Automatic/time will tell. I Won't Last A Day Without You milik The Carpenters.

Distance

Sampul single Can You Keep A Secret?

Di penghujung tahun 1999, Hikki merilis single #1 keduanya yaitu Addicted To You yang terjual sebanyak 1.784.000 keping CD. Single berjudull For You/Time Limit ini terjual sebanyak 888,650 keping CD.

Menanggapi hal ini Hikki hanya menjawab 'I'm not like that gorgeous bombshell'.

Di awal tahun 2001, Hikki kembali ke Jepang dan merilis Can You Keep A Secret? yang menjadi #1 song of the year dengan penjualan mencapai 1.484.940 keping. di akhir tahun 2001, Hikki menjadi satu dari sedikit artis yang memiliki #1 Album of The Year sekaligus #1 Single of The Year.

Deep River

Sampul single SAKURA drops/Letters

Lalu sebuah album pun akhirnya dirilis. The Year mengalahkan Rivalnya, Ayumi Hamasaki. Namun traveling harus puas menjadi #2 Single of The Year di belakang single H milik Ayumi Hamasaki yang menjadi #1.

Lalu single keempat You Make Me Want To Be A Man dirilis di Eropa diikuti dengan perilisan ulang Exodus di Eropa.

Ultra Blue

Setelah 17 bulan, Utada Hikaru kembali ke dunia hiburan Jepang dengan sebuah single berjudul Be My Last. Be My Last tetap menduduki #1 dan terjual 110.928 keping.

Hikki telah merilis Kiss & Cry dan Fly me to the moon ( in other words ) -2007 MIX- di iTunes jepang untuk mempromosikan single Beautiful World/Kiss & Cry yang akan resmi dirilis tanggal 29 Agustus 2007 mendatang.

Hikki kembali dipilih sebagai Favourite Artist Of The Year berdasarkan polling kepada 20.000 orang lewat majalah Oricon Style.

Single pertamanya, Come Back To Me akan mulai diputar di radio lokal pada tanggal 10 Februari 2009.
